Welcome to Early Expressions Piano Classes! Our Early Explorers classes, geared toward 3- and 4-year-olds, allow children to have a positive and fun introduction to the world of music-making.

Our Early Explorers music classes are an exciting introduction to music for the smallest musician. The goal of this class is music appreciation. Through this class, children are introduced to classical music and composers, sing songs, participate in fun music and movement activities to engage their bodies and minds, learn basic music concepts and terminology, and gain a love and appreciation of music through play!

This “Wondrous Winter” lesson plan includes everything you need to teach a super fun and hands-on one-hour class all about the musical staff and simple chords. 

Children will enjoy singing and playing rhythm instruments to an exciting song about a sleigh ride to Prokofiev’s “Troika;” will be introduced to the musical staff and learn to make and identify chords on the staff; will have lots of fun moving to Vivaldi’s “Winter” and acting out various wintertime activities; will be introduced to basic ear training; and will love experiencing all of this through song, play, movement, listening and art.

We love this lesson plan all about short and long in music! It really is one of our very favorites. Children will learn that music can tell a wonderful story, and will go home and tell their parents all about the their adventure on the river!

In this lesson plan, children will love singing, moving, and going on a musical journey down a river to Smetana’s beautiful orchestral work “The Moldau;” will learn about and experiment with short and long using art, listening, instruments and an edible craft; will be introduced to the solfege scale and will learn some fun songs about rain; and will have fun learning all about long and short in music through song, play, movement, listening and art. Take your students on a trip on a musical train as you learn all about loud and soft in music!

Mighty Musicians: Learning to Love Music 


Early piano & creative musical skills for young musicians!


Our Mighty Musicians classes, geared toward 5- and 6-year-olds, allow children to have a positive and fun introduction to the world of music-making and give them a great start in learning to play the piano. 

Children in our Mighty Musicians music classes will experience and learn about music through listening, singing, movement and play, and will also use their new found knowledge to work on their basic piano skills. Students will also learn about the great composers and their music, and have the opportunity to do some composing themselves! This class is appropriate for children who have taken the Early Explorers class, have had some piano or music experience, or for those who may not have had a class in the past but are eager to learn and get a jump-start into music!

Forte Fireworks! Lesson Plan: Music Can Be Loud or Soft
In this lesson plan, students learn  that music can tell a story! They explore different musical elements used to create a musical story, including improvising the musical elements on the piano and creating their own musical stories! Students are introduced to Edvard Grieg, and will learn about keyboard topography and piano technique basics.

This lesson plan is number 1 in our five-week Mighty Musicians piano class (or Day 1 in a week-long camp).

In this lesson plan, students learn that music is made up of a pattern of short and long notes over a steady beat. They are introduced to basic rhythm (including half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes) through clapping and speaking words over a steady beat. Students play a pre-staff notation piano piece, focusing on "walking" on their fingertips. Students are introduced to Ludwig van Beethoven and his 5th Symphony, and create a symphony of their own!

This lesson plan is number 2 in our five-week Mighty Musicians piano class (or Day 2 in a week-long camp).
This patriotic lesson plan will be a blast, as students explore fireworks, flags and more, and learn that music can be loud or soft! Students will march in a parade, play a matching game, explore dynamics using a variety of instruments, compose their own fireworks song, play a pre-staff notation piece, and go on a memorable musical adventure to "see" a fireworks show! Pieces that students will become familiar with include Handel's Music For the Royal Fireworks, Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever, and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
